In the vast majority of cases, yes, shower or bath hoses are standard, with a diameter of 1/2 inch and a 15 x 21 mm thread. So you have little chance of making a mistake

In most cases, your shower hose is leaking either : – because it is poorly connected or slightly unscrewed: unscrew it to connect it correctly, then tighten it by hand – because limescale has accumulated on the thread: clean it and soak it for 1 or 2 hours in white wine – because the silicone seal is missing or damaged.

You need to change your shower or bath hose if it leaks, has lost its flexibility, is pinched or clogged with limescale, and water is having difficulty draining. Finally, take a quick look at its outward appearance: has it lost its luster, is it pinched? These clues will help you decide whether or not it’s time to change your hose.

In France, the norm is to unscrew a shower hose clockwise. So if it resists, for example because it’s clogged with limescale, use a pair of pliers to turn it clockwise.

The thread of a shower hose meets the following standard: 1/2 inch diameter with a 15 x 21 mm thread pitch.

If your shower hose doesn’t have much scale on it: tap the union nut several times with the plastic handle of a large screwdriver to encourage it to disengage from the tap thread. If, on the other hand, it is heavily scaled or oxidized, pour plenty of white vinegar over it. Leave for a few hours, then repeat if necessary. Finally, wrap the screen with a damp cloth and try to loosen it with a pair of large pliers or a wrench, holding the valve with the other hand. Once loosened, replace the hose with a new one, tightening it by hand only, making sure that the old silicone seal has been removed and replaced with the new one supplied with your new hose.

Shower or bath faucet bases are 15 x 21 millimeters (1/2 inch diameter). Fittings 12/17 generally correspond to the shut-off valve on WCs, washbasin faucets, bidet faucets, etc. So there’s no margin for error.
